Growing Together

Our ground-breaking project being run with Quarr Abbey will offer people with learning disabilities the chance to grow produce and create unique art and craft pieces for sale at the Abbey.

Growing Together

The Growing Together project is a partnership between Quarr Abbey and BlueSky Arts The aim is to support and co-ordinate the growing and selling of fresh produce and art and craftwork developed by Blue Sky Arts and other social enterprises on site. This is an exciting new learning and development programme which hopes to establish itself as a positive and practical way of enhancing the social and economic futures of vulnerable individuals and groups.

The project is being established initially at the Abbey’s "Green Growers" hut next to the tea shop where a programme of demonstrations, exhibitions, art sessions and events is being planned so that members of the public can see and get involved in what’s going on. Selling to the public is the longer-term aim once the project expands to five days a week. The project, which aims to support Blue Sky clients in gaining experience they can use in future employment, has been described as "creative and forward thinking". It’s certainly a unique opportunity for all budding growers and artists to get involved.
